Catching Strays Empty Catching Strays

Post by TopHat May 1st 2011, 2:31 pm

Doctor Impossible was panting heavily, sprinting through a maze of New York alleyways. This day had started off so well, and then one mishap with the Dimension Drill led to a group of extradimensional pests slipping out into this dimension. This day was now terrible, as a small pack of extradimensional acid-spitting monkey monsters were on the loose.

Now, it wasn't that the Doctor had any problem helping people, quite the contrary. The problem was it was supposed to be his day off, and he was just gonna' go grab some fast food. And now his plans were dashed epically. Doctor Impossible skidded to a halt in a bustling street, taking a moment to catch his breath. He looked at the Dimension Drill in his hand, having done some alterations so it could track the extradimensional frequency of those monsters. It was crude, as it was such a hasty job, but he was definitely getting some readings, but these people mustn't have seen anything since they weren't even remotely startled.

The Doctor stood up to his full height and rubbed the chin of his helmet. "Now if I were an extradimensional acid-spitting monkey thing, where would I go...?".

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by BlackOut May 1st 2011, 3:53 pm

Black crouched perched on the ledge of one of New York’s many towering buildings. His right hand rested gently on a nearby power line he was pulling the electricity from the line into his body; it was a recharging after an eventful day. The day so far was shaping up nicely no super powered criminals running around causing death and destruction. No terrorist laying siege to the city just a calm mostly eventless afternoon filled with petty mugging and armed robberies. It was possible that he had grown to accustom to super human warfare to consider these things more than a common annoyance. Or maybe he just becomes more cynical.

Before his thought had a chance to work it self out he was alerted by the screaming of a group of civilians down below. Black scanned the streets below looking for the origin of the screams. He quickly spotted a herd of stampeding pedestrians. Black jumped forward off of his perch to stop whatever it was they were running from. Once he was in the air electricity push outward from his body allowing him to levitate in place. By forcing more electricity out behind him he propelled himself forward and down toward the street. I group of people were being chased by a pack of small strange looking animals. “What the fuck?” Black said floated above the chaos watching quizzically. He tried to remember if he heard anything about animals escaping from the zoo.

As levitated above and thought back to when he watched the early morning news he saw one of the creatures spit up a strange substance toward the crowd. The goo hit the sidewalk and started melting a hole in the concrete. “Okay maybe they aren’t from the zoo.” Black lifted one of his arms toward the creatures. He started to draw electricity from his body drawing it toward his outstretched palm. Once he felt he had a sufficient amount of power built up he released a small fast moving blot of electricity. The attack struck one creatures dead on, it animal feel to the ground motionless. The rest of the creatures turned toward the direction of the attack. After staring at Black for a few seconds the scattered everyone taking off in a different direction.

Huh” Black mumbled floating down toward the side walk where the downed creature was laying. Black crouched down in front of the thing. It was very odd looking, it actually looked similar to a monkey. Aside from the whole vomiting up acid thing. Black examined the creature trying to find any type of clue as to where it came from and why it had been roaming the streets of New York.

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by TopHat May 1st 2011, 5:02 pm

A sudden burst of screaming, fleeing pedestrians caught Doctor Impossible attention quickly enough. Kind of a hard thing to miss. He pocketed his Dimension Drill, running in the opposite direction of the fleeing pedestrians, giving off the occasional "Scuse me! Pardon me! Thank you!" as he barged past one. Fleeing in terror or not, there was no excuse for the rudeness of these Americans.

He kept running, spying sveral of the extradimensional beasties running off in various directions "Oh that's bloody wonderful" he mumbled, still running. He skidded to a halt, a most unpleasant stench reaching his nostrils "Guh! What smells like burnt monkey?". He looked down, noticing the charred remains of one creature, being looked over by a man with crackling hands.

"Oh hello there" Doctor Impossible greeted, opening a small portal with the Dimension Drill. He kept speaking, all the while he was scooping up the creatures remains and tossing them back into the dimension from whence they came "Right, well, I imagine you have some question. First of all, I'm Doctor Impossible, or 'The Doctor' if you want to go short. Second, these are most definitely not monkeys. They're extra-dimensional monsters I accidentaly brought into our dimension. Terribly sorry about that".

After closing his portal back up he turned around, giving the stranger a hasty handshake "Pleased to meet ya!" he withdrew his hand, feeling a few sparks run up his arms "Woo! Electrokinetic? That or you've got one hell of a joybuzzer. No wait, that's a terrible joke. What were we talking about? Oh right! Acid-spitting monkey aliens! Care to help me put them back where they belong?".

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by Valkyrie May 1st 2011, 6:19 pm

Nina gingerly rose from her seat on the bus as it slowed to a halt in front of a stop. The doors opened with a creaking whoosh, and as she gathered up her backpack, she noticed a handful of people running down the street. She frowned, her brow furrowing as she made her way down the vehicles steps and onto the sidewalk, peering around the corner where the people had appeared. More running, more screaming, frantic faces contorted with exhaustion, like panicked animals on the stampede.

This might be my chance... She though eagerly, balling up a fist as she shouldered her pack, her knuckles paling under her glove. I can beat up some bad guys, then everyone will know I'm a hero!

She grinned and jogged down the sidewalk, combat boots thudding heavily against the bleached concrete. People bumped into her, but because of her...stability, they were thrown aside, pushed into benches and shrubs while she barreled through to find the source of the panic. Once the majority of the crowd had passed, she saw nothing; an empty street, store owners shutting their doors frantically, vendors heaving for air as they pushed away their carts. No man with a gun, no cackling villain, not even a toddler with a pop gun. ''Well damn.'' she grumbled, her posture slumping into a displeased curve.

She heard a scratching sound.

Suddenly, her heart began to hammer in her chest. More scratching, it was coming from under a parked car, not 15 feet away. Whatever had scared these people, it was under the body of this red Volvo, and it was small. Would she be able to handle something tiny? Her powers didn't exactly allow for precision. She slowly inched her way closer, now hearing squeaks and ruffling noises. As she peered under, she noticed a furry lump of a creature, itching itself. ''Jesus,'' she groused loudly. ''it's just some stupid cat or something!'' The creature turned its head, bearing rows of pencil-thick canines as it screeched at her, its fur standing on end. Nina let out a scream, falling backwards as she scrambled to reach the building behind her. ''Not a cat, not a cat!'' In her panic, she grabbed the base of a light pole, and making a snap decision, she pulled herself to her feet and yanked it out of the ground, the wires at its end spitting sparks in protest. ''Die, freak weasel monkey thing!''

It leaped from its hiding place under the car, outstretched forearms, spewing a strange fluid that barely missed her legs. As quickly as it came, it was beaten to death with a lamp post, glass shattering and metal squealing as it and the creature were pounded into the cement.

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by Bubba Jones May 1st 2011, 6:37 pm

Bubba was in his apartment, playing games, specifically, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. That game never got old, even if it did come out like a decade ago. He was playing as Taskmaster, who was pretty kick ass in Bubba's opinion. He was pretty into it, until he saw something strange out the window like a monkey...shooting acid. He paused the game and hoped it would be quick, because he was almost up to Galactus and was NOT turning the system off. He went into his closet and grabbed his costume.

Moments later, he appeared out of the house in his costume, ready to find these strange monsters and hopefully...well, make them not be around anymore. He had put up his personal bubble field in case anything happened. He then looked for the thing he had seen before. After about 5 seconds of looking, he had found the one he saw before dead...with others that weren't dead. Bubba ran to the scene as fast as he could. He knew that these things were dangerous, so he decided to keep these things in control.

In an awesome display of his not that awesome powers, he made a bubble form around one of the monkeys, trapping them in there. He then proceeded to lift up the bubble to a height where a drop would kill. He didn't want to kill it himself, but if these monkeys were stupid enough, which they probably were, would kill themselves.

Bubba then noticed two seemingly more than ordinary people next to the dead monkey he saw before. "Man, I'm tired of all these mutant monkeys attacks, will you guys help clear them out?" He looked at the dead one. "...well, I see one of you already did..."

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by TopHat May 1st 2011, 6:59 pm

"Ah hello! Our duo has become a trio!" Doctor Impossible exclaimed, upon seeing Bubba approach "Doctor Impossible, pleased to meet you! Terribly sorry for the monkeys, had a mishap with my Dimension Drill. Hate when that happens, eh? Er try not to get to close to them, they spit acid. And you don't even want to knowwhat their poop does". Somehow, despite wearing a fully-covering helmet it was quite clear he was cringing.

He was interrupted, one of the creatures screeching and leaping down upon him. It scratched away at the Doctor's helmet, acdic globs of spittle pattering onto his hat and helmet. Doctor Impossible yelled out in annoyance, forcibly tearing the extra-dmensional beast off his helmet and smacking him against the wall a few times. The creature was quite dazed from the xperience, but indeed alive. He was a Doctor, he never killed. With another hasty portal job, another extra-dimensional beasty was sent back where it belonged.

"Well then...That was unpleasant..." Doctor Impossible grumbled, dusting himself off. He paused a moment, hearing a rather loud commotion, all sorts of smashingand banging sounds. What were those cheeky monkeys up too now?

As Doctor Impossible ran to the source of the intense noise, expecting the other two to follow him, he found that it was not an extra-dimensional acid spitter causing the ruckus. But rather a young woman smashing a lamp post into one of the poor buggers. "Alright, alright he's had enough..." Doctor Impossible remarked, taking the creatures remains into another portal. "Hello, Doctor Impossible. Released these little scamps after an accident with my Dimension Drill. Care to join us in rounding them up and sending them home? We can be, the Fantastic Four!". He made a gesture in theair, as if expecting a sign for the group to materialise out of thin air.

"Well, not really. Copyright law forbids it. Still, nothing better then a superhero team-up, eh?".

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by Valkyrie May 1st 2011, 8:24 pm

Her breathing was labored out of fear, her hair now in wisps around her face. She stood up slowly, her arms going lax and letting the lamp post fall to the ground with a loud clatter. ''Uh...''

These three men were heroes. The real deal. They had the outfits, this was their job, they lived here. Her cheeks flushed, and suddenly she felt like a foolish child trying to play with the big boys. Her fists clenched and relaxed out of reflex as her nerves began to sizzle. ''Yeah, sure.'' she nodded, ''Okay.'' Her head bobbed in agreement, her fingers moving to fidget with her zipper.

Her eyes scanned the street for more of those monkeys, and seeing none, this served to make her more tense. She had been offered a part in this, be a helping hand to the real heroes, maybe even become one of them, if she proved she could do it. She felt as if she were naked, stuck in some auditorium full of heroes and villains, her powers and inexperience laid bare before their experienced eyes. She smiled nervously and held out a gloved hand. ''Nina.'' she said brightly, fear and apprehension in her voice, ''Nina Wynowski.''

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by BlackOut May 1st 2011, 11:45 pm

BlackOut stood listening to the man as he multitasked speaking to him while also opening some kind of portal and dropping the charred remains of the dead monster into it. “I'm Doctor Impossible, or 'The Doctor' if you want to go short. Second, these are most definitely not monkeys. They're extra-dimensional monsters I accidentally brought into our dimension. Terribly sorry about that" Black raised an eyebrow under his mask. Everything was happening very fast and he still needed a few minutes to process what was going on. The man reached out quickly taking Blacks hand for a hand shake Black finally wrapped his head around the situation just in time to realize that he had accidentally given the man a small shock.

The Doctor started to speak again but Black was only half listening his attention was now drawn to what looked like a large African American man making a bubble form around one of the creatures that had ran from Black. What an odd power he thought to himself watching as the man approached them.

"Man, I'm tired of all these mutant monkeys attacks, will you guys help clear them out?” the man stated confidently gesturing toward Black and The Doctor. The Doc immediately turned and greeted the man. As Impossible went through his whole introductory speech again Black scanned the area trying to see if there were any more “alien monkeys” in their immediate area. His gaze fell upon an attractive young woman who was currently pounding one of the monkey-esque creatures into a paste on the street with a street lamp. Damn that’s brutal he thought to himself staring at the woman as she continued to wail away on the long dead creature’s corpse.

Impossible called the girl over inviting her to help them. Black brushed his hands on the front of his costume and adjusted his mask as the young lady approached. He was ready for this a good old fashion team up. The girl extended he hand tentatively “Nina.” She said “Nina Wynowski” Black could hear it in her voice, the slightest uncertainty and fear. She was a newbie; Black smiled and even gave a quick chuckle.

Taking he hand he smiled though she could not see it. “I’m BlackOut” he said “Don’t worry” he said warmly gesturing toward the other two men standing next to him. “We don’t bite… well I don’t at least. I don’t know these two well enough to confidently say whether or not they bite people, but I have a good feeling about them.” Black looked around at the other heroes that stood around him. He smiled and clapped his hands together excitedly. “Now that we are all acquainted and up to speed, Nina, Doc, … Mr. Bubbles let’s get down to business. I believe we have a band of marauding, acid spewing, alien monkeys that had somehow escaped into our fine city through a portal form another dimension to wrangle. Good lord that was a mouthful.” Black turned to face the Doc. “I hope you have some way of tracking these things, because hunting them down blindly would be quite the hassle.

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by Bubba Jones May 2nd 2011, 4:50 pm

"Hello, My name is..." Bubba started to say when he heard a loud noise. He followed the doctor and BlackOut to the source of the noise which was a lady beating up an acid-spitting-monkey with a streetlamp. He was impressed, that took serious skills to perform, he knew he couldn't do that. She introduced herself and realized he was the only one who hasn't yet.

"Well my name is Bubba Jones, although some call me Bubbles, Mr.Bubbles, or Bubble Man, even though I can't say i'm entirely fond of all those names." He said, which was true. He found those names to be more of an insult to him, but not all the time did he care, like now in the case of acid spitting monkeys. "I just gotta say, Nina, the way you beat that monkey with a streetlamp sounds like something my mom would do." He laughed silently but doubted the others would laugh too...after all none of them know his mom...or knew to better phrase it...no, no, no, he wasn't about to make himself sad now.

Bubba turned to BlackOut "Alright then, BlackOut, that sounds like a good idea...and please, call me Bubba." He said with a slight iritation in his voice but he tried to make that iritation go away...couldn't be annoyed with the people he'd be teaming up with. He then turned to the Doctor, 'Well, maybe we can be the Quantum Quadruplet, even though I have no idea what 'quantum" means, but I always see it in science articles so it must be something cool." Bubba didn't know what this little gathering would be called, but he didn't care much...he just cared about reducing the alien monkey population to 0...or at least 1. "And it's hero time!" Bubba yelled.

"Well, I could give you a crash course in quantum physics if we resolve the current crisis" Doctor Impossible replied, tipping his slightly singed hat. He cocked his head toward BlackOut and nodded "Right! Yes, I do indeed have a way to track them...". He pulled his Dimension Drill out of his coat once more, spinning it around on a gloved finger as if it was a trusty six-shooter.

"I did some slight modifications...Basically, I can track anything on the extra-dimensional wavelength that those creatures give off". He looked up at the group, feeling that his words may have gone over their heads "Er...Right well, I reckon there were about 16 of the little guys who came out...And we've each taken down one sooo, 12 to go! Go team, yeah!".

"Now then" The Doctor began, snapping back to reality, moving the Drill around in the area. The device suddenly started buzzing quite violently "Ah...theres a strong concentration, maybe three or so, in the building over there" the building he pointed to was a China shop, several creatures were inside smashing the various plates on offer "Oh well, that's just unfortunate for the shop owner. Anyway, slight problem. I can only make so many portals with this without it breaking down, so I'll have to kindly ask Mr.Bubbles to hold any monkey-men we detain in a forcefield so that I can send them all back with one portal. Sound good?".

Nina reeled, bringing her hands up to her upper arms as the men spoke. She nodded, still numb and in shock from their warm behavior. She gave each of the men a warm smile, giving them all a nod and a small ''Hello.'' and a tiny salute. They weren't like celebrities or super models, they weren't rude and off-putting, they were warm, and friendly, they treated people like equals. She smiled, eager to enact the plan, confident now that she had help.

''Sounds like a plan, Doc.'' she chirped happily, fully zipping up her vest and tightening the straps on her gloves. Four supers against 12 freaky monkeys, and 3 of them were already close by. She did not have bubbles, or a space-age gun, or whatever powers BlackOut may have had; her fists, her skin, the most primal weapons were her choice, and though she did not wield them with skill, a baptism by fire ( or monkey acid ) was as good a teacher as any.

She steeled herself, clenching her fists tight, satisfied as the leather of her gloves squealed, knuckles white under her impenetrable skin, and with a deep breath she was ready to enter that china shop. How weird She thought. Bull in a china shop, psycho trans-dimensional monkeys in a china shop, same thing, I guess.

Black watched as the Doc used his device to locate the creatures. Moving the device around until it started to buzz. "Ah...there’s a strong concentration, maybe three or so, in the building over there" the Doc said pointing down the street. Black had to levitate of the ground to see over Mr. Bubbles massive frame. He saw that the Doc had been pointed toward a china shop farther down the block.

Alright, let’s go team” he cheered with slightly sarcastically. Flying farther up into the air he flew out from the group. Targeting the china shop he jetted ahead down the street. Gracefully cutting through the sky he reached the shop in seconds. Landing on the side walk in front of the china shop he took in the scene before him. The front window of the shop had been smashed open and the building’s security system let off its high pitched alarm which pierced the air in a quite annoying fashion.

Poking his head inside he watched as the animals ran amok, smashing the all of the stores wares and really causing quite a bit of chaos. Black pulled head out through the shattered window; locking his fingers together he bent them back cracking his knuckles. “Let’s get to work” he smirked tightening his fists as electricity poured out from his pores and moved toward his arms. The electrical energy ran down both of his arms sparking menacingly. Jumping though he hole that was once a pane of glass he landed making sure to keep his body between the pests and the exit to keep them from escaping. “Alright space chimps” he said in a cocky sort of voice. “Who wants it first?

Catching Strays Empty Re: Catching Strays

Post by Bubba Jones May 12th 2011, 10:01 pm

"Naw, I'm good, Doc." Bubba said. He was here to do some superhero-ing, not to learn science. He then listened to the rest of the plan, so he knew what to do. "No problem!" Bubba said at the end of Doctor Impossible's plan. He had no problem playing such an important role and helping out a little. He then proceeded to look towards the store that was currently being destroyed. "A China shop, eh? I would have guessed a Party City, or something, but China shops are cool for alien monkeys, I guess." He was already to go when he saw BlackOut fly towards the store.

Impressive. Bubba thought. He wished he could fly or even just run that fast, but simply, that was too much to ask for from one blast of radiation. However, he was in peak human condition, and he could run sort of fast too, albeit, nothing compared to that speed. "Last one there is a rotten hero!" He yelled and with that, he ran as fast as he could. It took him around a minute or 2 to get there and by the time he did, he saw BlackOut in a position ready to fight monkeys. He kinda wanted to see what else BlackOut could do so he just watched, and waited for his queue to make trap some monkeys in bubbles.
